The Toyota Yaris is a global model that is an odd fit in the local Toyota Line up. It's the same category as the Toyota Vios, yet offers less interior space. The 2021 Toyota Yaris is also more expensive than a similar spec Toyota Vios. For hatchback fans, Toyota also has the Toyota Wigo, or the Daihatsu Ayla. It seems that the 2021 Yaris has no space in the local Toyota line up, yet it is still here as an option for people who prefer a sporty-looking subcompact hatch that doesn't look like a taxi. It is also the basis of the popular GR Yaris, although this 2021 Toyota Yaris E has 2 more doors and is less powerful. In this Filipino car review, I explore the Toyota Yaris to see if it still makes any sense. You would hardly see one on the road mainly due to the popularity of the more practical Toyota Vios. It is a bit of a shame since locally, the only hatchback competition it gets is the Honda Jazz, which would soon be replaced by the Honda City Hatchback. It also competes against the Mazda 2 hatchback, which is pricey as well but comes with more kit and features. The Yaris I reviewed here is the base model variant, which is a good platform to build some mods on. You'll have to be content with the low power though, since this is only a 1.3L engine with a CVT. Manual Transmission option is thankfully available.
