The story highlights the unresolved grief of families who lost loved ones during India's Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka (1987–1990). It centers on Rifleman Mohammad Younis, who died in a fierce battle with the LTTE shortly after joining the army. His family, from Akhnoor in Jammu, has spent 40 years seeking answers about his burial, which remains unknown.

Operation Pawan, India’s mission to stabilize Sri Lanka during the civil war, saw over 1,100 soldiers killed and thousands injured. Despite their sacrifice, the operation is labeled a “minor” one, with no formal commemoration day for its martyrs. Graves of fallen soldiers in Sri Lanka, such as Younis's, lie neglected, while their families continue to grieve without closure.

Ironically, Sri Lanka honors these soldiers with a war memorial and ceremonies, while India has largely forgotten them. Veterans of the operation have called for official recognition and a remembrance day to honor the sacrifices of the 1,171 martyrs.
