You will notice that the lens mount cap kept rotating and would not hold in place. This was very annoying even though the lens actually worked well. It was time to replace the mount.

As I go about replacing the mount, I would like to let you know that about a year ago I invested in a second-hand DSLR for video purposes and picked up the Nikon D3400. I did not have the budget for a brand new camera and so got this for a decent amount. I was able to get it at that price because there was a problem with the 70 - 300 mm lens. This lens had a problem with the mount. It would hold on to the camera but not in a sturdy way. I did not do my research at first and picked up the camera thinking that it would not be much of a hassle but soon found out that the mount was in a bad shape and needed to be replaced. I began looking up Amazon.in and other e-commerce websites in hopes of finding the part locally but this particular part was not available. I turned to Aliexpress and was able to source this part from China.

It took about 3 weeks to arrive and once it arrived, I took another couple of days to gather the courage to open up the lens and replace the part. It was not too difficult but it still needed patience and an eye for detail.

You could easily tell that there was a difference between the original lens mount and the one I purchased. There was no serial number on the one I purchased and so I will at a later date have to remove this serial number and place it on the new mount. The second difference I noticed was that the colour of the Nikon label had the same colour but a slightly different shade. The size of the fonts was different too.

I had to reassemble the entire lens a couple times due to lack of experience. I have learnt a lot from this and am sure that I will be able to do a faster job if I had to do the process once again. I also learnt that there are multiple ways to fix the contacts. I did it the hard way and later on, found out that there was an easier way and that is to keep them in place after mounting everything by pushing them in place later.

You will now notice that the lens mount cap does not rotate freely but gets locked in place on the lens after the mount has been replaced.
