When the alabama rig catches big largemouth bass.

The bass were in the prespawn phase with water temperature in the low 50’s. To make it more challenging, a cold front arrived days earlier and dropped water temperatures.

I teamed up with Dave Brown and challenged Jim Wheeler and Terry Schoettmer to catch the biggest 5 largemouth bass for a friendly competition. We threw traditional prespawn baits – chatterbaits, rattle traps, darter baits, and jerkbaits.

After studying the Humminbird Sidefinder and Garmin Livescope, we discovered bass were sitting on the outside edge of the breakline. We threw Alabama rigs parallel to the breakline and caught many big largemouth bass with it.
