Rahul Gandhi's statement inside the Parliament, raises yet another controversy that revolves around General MM Naravane‘s (former Chief of Army Staff, 2019–2022) unpublished memoir titled Four Stars of Destiny. On February 2, 2026 during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, as Leader of Opposition, attempted to quote excerpts from this book in the Lok Sabha while replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address.
Rahul Gandhi referenced a magazine article (reportedly from The Caravan) that published purported excerpts from the memoir’s typescript. He cited passages related to sensitive national security issues, such as: Chinese military movements (e.g., references to “Chinese tanks in Doklam” during the 2017 standoff, and implications for the 2020 eastern Ladakh/Galwan crisis), Internal discussions on decision-making during border tensions with China, the Agniveer recruitment scheme (where the book reportedly notes differences between the Army’s initial recommendations retaining 75% of recruits and the final policy of retaining only 25%). The book itself remains unpublished as of early 2026, delayed due to pending security clearances/review by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) standard for retired senior officers’ works involving sensitive details on operations, China policy, Galwan clash, and Agnipath.
