James explained that "I have not been able to discover much about lama Chetsangpa’s life, not even his dates. However he was a considerable scholar and this particular work was compiled from notes taken of his teachings by his students. As you read it there is a sense of being present in the room with Chetsangpa as he imparts not only the formal details of the teaching but also the intensity and depth of his own belief in its value and the warmth of his concern for his students."
