A beautiful, honest, very in-depth, candid and eye-opening documentary about one of the greatest American actresses of the past century, This is the fascinating life story of PIPER LAURIE, who went from being a Hollywood starlet to become a versatile and respected character actress.

PIPER LAURIE is being interviewed by Lucas Alexander (Danish actor, singer, interviewer) in this 2 hour and 15 min. documentary filmed in Los Angeles, California on January 25, 2018 in celebration of Piper Laurie´s 86th birthday.

Probably the most extraordinary and candid conversation filmed, with this formidable actress, author, director and artist, whose career spans almost 75 years in showbusiness. From her childhood in Detroit, family life, being sent away to a children's home at age 6 with her sister, her first love-affair with former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, whom she starred with in her first film "Louisa" in 1950. Then becoming a contract player at Universal in Hollywood at age 17 which led to a fascinating, but frustrating early career as a movie star headliner working with stars such as Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis, Tyrone Power and many others, before she broke her contract and went to New York City to do Live-Television shows, which changed her career, gaining respect for her versatile acting abilities.

In 1961 Piper Laurie starred opposite Paul Newman in the legendary film classic "The Hustler", where she earned her first out of three Academy Award nominations.

After her powerful and unforgettable performance in the Stephen King Horror classic "Carrie" in 1976, which earned her a second Oscar nomination, a extraordinary new career began for Piper Laurie. Notably "Twin Peaks", "The Grass Harp", "The Faculty", "The Thorn Birds", "Tim" with Mel Gibson and worked opposite stars such as Patrick Swayze, Matt Damon, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey, Danny DeVito, Gregory Peck, Walther Matthau, Jack Lemmon just to name a few.

PIPER LAURIE BIOGRAPHY:

Piper Laurie is a 3-time Oscar nominee, nominated by BAFTA as well as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for best performance by an actress in 'The Hustler' with Paul Newman.

Laurie was born Rosetta Jacobs in Detroit, Michigan on January 22, 1932. Her family is of Russian Jewish and Polish Jewish descent. Piper studied acting with Benno and Betomi Schnider for 3 years when she auditioned for Universal Studios, who signed her to a long term contract. They made more than 20 films starring the teenage girl. Disgusted with the lack of serious roles, Laurie finally broke her lucrative Hollywood contract, moved to New York, worked on live television and theatre, and within two years changed her life and her career.

She stopped working for 15 years after 'The Hustler' to devote her energies to the Civil Rights movement and becoming an artist and sculpturer. When she accepted work again she was nominated for an Academy Award as best supporting actress for the original 'Carrie' with Sissy Spacek, and again as best supporting actress in 'Children of a Lesser God' with Marlee Matlin. She won the Golden Globe for her role in the David Lynch cult favorite "Twin Peaks' and was nominated for an Emmy for both best actress and best supporting actress in 'Twin Peaks." She has been nominated twelve times for an Emmy, including one for the original and celebrated live broadcast of 'The Days of Wine and Roses' directed by John Frankenheimer, as well as for her comedic performance in 'Frasier'. She won the Emmy for 'Promise' opposite James Woods and James Garner. She was Harvard's Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year, and she also received an SFECA award for her performance as Dolly in the film of 'The Grass Harp'.

In 2010 she did the feature film 'Hesher', with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Natalie Portman. Most recently she appeared in "White Boy Rick", starring Matthew McConaughey, and in "Snapshots", directed by Melanie Mayron.
Ms. Laurie performed on Broadway in the Tony-nominated 'Mornings at Seven'. She also appeared on Broadway in 'The Glass Menagerie', with Maureen Stapleton.
Off-Broadway, she has appeared in 'Rosemary and the Alligators', 'The Destiny of Me', `A Little Night Music´. She toured in a one-person play about Zelda Fitzgerald. In 2010 she directed Jim Brochu in his one-man show 'Zero Hour', for which he received the Drama Desk Award.

Piper Laurie is divorced from movie critic, Pulitzer Prize-winner Joe Morgenstern. Their daughter Anna lives in Oregon. Laurie's autobiography "Learning to Live Out Loud" was published in 2011 to rave reviews and is now available as an audio book on audible.com.
