TMNT Wrath of the Mutants - Full Game 1CC

Wrath of the Mutants is a beat 'em up developed by Raw Thrills, originally released in arcades back in 2017, but now it has finally been released on all modern platforms.

Unfortunately, it's not a great game. It did grow on me a bit as I played, but it has some major issues that you just can't look past.

The two most annoying things to me are the gun enemies and the bosses. A lot of the enemies that use guns can shoot at you before you can even see them on screen, and the projectiles have fairly large hitboxes that can make them hard to avoid. You really have to memorize their placements, or else they're going to chip away at you throughout each stage they appear in. They'll become less of a problem as you learn the game more, but it's really just terrible design.

I don't like most of the bosses either. They typically only react to the first attack you hit them with (depending on the timing, you might get two) - after that, they start a counter attack combo. The only way to avoid it is to run away, so every fight comes down to the same hit and run tactics. Most of them are just tedious to fight. And it's really hard to avoid damage on some of these bosses - not only because they can counter really fast, but also because an extra keeps spawning until you defeat the boss. They're not too bad to deal with, but again, most of the time they just chip away at you. It wouldn't be so bad if they dropped a pizza after you defeat them, but most of the time you don't get one for quite a while. That sucks too.

There's also no consecutive stage run, like other arcade games. You just play one stage at a time, totally self-contained. I'm not a fan of that either.
Other than that, the game isn't too bad. They brought over a lot of the mechanics that Konami's TMNT games had, for better and for worse. It's not terribly long and it moves at a decent enough pace, so it can be fun as you play and learn to work around the annoyances. I'm not a fan of the graphics, art or music either, but I'm not too bothered by any of it. I guess it's inoffensive, lol.

They're selling this for $29.99 at the moment, and I would definitely not recommend it at that price. For 10, or maybe 15 bucks, it could be worth a shot for the TMNT arcade fan who's already play enough of the old games, I suppose.
