Niels Koops is a professional trader with 9 years of experience. He currently trades at the Amsterdam Exchange. He develops and trades his own proprietary algos. Bookmap compliments his work very nicely by showing the intended order flow in relation to executed transactions.

Niels explained how he approached the open of the S&P 500 on January 18, 2019. He combines order flow analysis through Bookmap with footprint charts and market profile. A footprint chart shows him what levels the volume is concentrated in. He then looks at these levels using Bookmap to see the microstructure, the way in which volume is spread out over time. The CVP gives further confirmation of market imbalances.

Niels configures his Heatmap in a unique way. He sets the lower cutoff % to “exact size 200.” This cuts down on clutter so that he is able to see only the large orders.

Because of the current volatility in the S&P 500, he always places his stops at least two points below his entry points. This helps to prevent from being stopped out prematurely. When the price moves to his first take-profit point, he scales out ⅔ of his position and trails his stop up to 1 point below break-even.
