Скачать или смотреть U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle: ‘America’s Tall Ship’ visits Seattle

The U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle visited Seattle for the first time since 2008, giving the public a rare opportunity to come aboard for a free tour and explore the only active square-rigger in U.S. government service.

At 295 feet long, the USCG said the Eagle is “the largest tall ship flying the stars and stripes and the only active square-rigger in United States government service.”

The ship was built in Hamburg, Germany, in 1936 by the Blohm and Voss Shipyard. The Eagle was originally built as the Horst Wessel by the German Navy and was a reparation for the U.S. following World War II, according to the USCG.

The 295-foot-long, three-masted barque boasts more than 22,300 square feet of sail and six miles of rigging.

Since 1946, the Eagle has served as a classroom at sea and a leadership laboratory for future Coast Guard officers, providing an at-sea leadership and professional development experience as part of the Coast Guard Academy.

The Eagle’s visit to Seattle marked the seventh port call of its 14-week journey along the West Coast.
