Ginger Rogers was one of the most successful actresses of Hollywood’s Golden Age. After a breakout role on Broadway in the 1930 play Girl Crazy, she starred in a couple of successful Hollywood films before signing with RKO Pictures and becoming the on-screen dance partner of fellow legend Fred Astaire. Together, the two achieved a great deal of success. However, Ginger found even greater success after their partnership ended. In 1940, she tried her hand at drama, playing the titular role in Kitty Foyle. Thanks to her performance, the film became a massive success. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress, leading to her becoming one of the biggest stars of the 1940s.

Ginger had modest success in the 1950s. However, her time in the spotlight eventually came to an end. In 1965, she went back to Broadway with a starring role Hello, Dolly! Broadway welcomed her back, and her career was rejuvenated on the stage.

Ginger was married and divorced five separate times during the course of her career, and never had children. Her last marriage ended in 1969, after which time she decided to remain independent. In 1977, she hired a personal assistant named Roberta Olden. Having never had a daughter, Ginger began to see Roberta as her own makeshift child. The two shared a close relationship for 18 years, until Ginger’s death in 1995.

Recently, Roberta has come forward with some warm memories regarding her late mother figure. Despite having been a devout Republican and Christian Scientist, Ginger is seen by many as an inspirational figure in the feminist sphere. She took her career into her own hands and excelled independently in an entertainment industry that was largely dominated by men.
