Gardemusik Wien - Austrian National Day Nationalfeiertag 26th October 2024

Gardemusik Wien, The Vienna Guards Band, supporting events at the Hofburg Palace Heldenplatz in Vienna on Saturday 26th October 2024 for Nationalfeiertag, Austrian National Day. The day starts with a wreath laying event by the President and Defence Minister and then included a inauguration parade of new recruits to the Austrian Armed Forces.

The band was under the direction of both The Prinicpal Director of Music (Heeresmusikchef) of the Austrian Armed Forces and chief conductor of Gardemusik Wien (Gardekapellmeister) Oberst Bernhard Heher for the wreath laying ceremony and then Gardemusik Wien's second conductor (2 Gardekapellmeister) Oberstleutnant Johann Kausz.

The event was a difficult one to film due to so many things happening at the same time and the individual displays, parades and performances not been advertised clearly with timings or locations. The national celebration of the armed forces and emergency services takes over the entire Heldenplatz and also spreads out into nearby streets making it quite a festival! The event was also a very busy and well attended which also made filming slightly chalenging. The Military Band of Lower Austria also performed during the day and there will be a separate video of their Platzconcerts that they performed.

Also featured in this video briefly is Österreichische Justizwachmusik, The Music Band of the Judicial Officers of Austria, who were performing outside the Presidential Chancellery.
