Japan has pledged to invest 10 trillion yen ($68 billion) in India on a decade during a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tokyo, as the two countries agreed to deepen security ties.

The two countries pledged to increase cooperation on semiconductors and AI.

Bilateral trade is currently worth over $20 billion annually, heavily favouring Japan.

The announcements were made after PM Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba.



Speaking during Modi's two-day stopover before he visits China, Ishiba said Japan would boost investment in India to 10 trillion yen ($68 billion) and would establish

PM Modi, who is on two day visit to Japan before he travels to China to attend the SCO meeting in Tianjin, said India-Japan cooperation is crucial for global peace and stability, and both sides have laid a strong foundation for a "new and golden chapter" in the partnership.


He also said that both countries are fully committed to a free, open, peaceful, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific.

Both sides also decided to further strengthen cooperation in the field of the defence industry and innovation.

In his remarks, the Japanese prime minister said both sides need to take advantage of each other's strengths to deal with next-generation challenges.
