By popular demand, thewatchbox.com offers insights and splendid sights of an early Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore. Launched in 1993 and met by a firestorm of controversy, the oversized Royal Oak Offshore took the increasingly establishment AP Royal Oak back to its roots as true rebel and iconoclast.

This example, 42mm in brushed titanium with a full Royal Oak bracelet, represents the apogee of early offshore craftsmanship. Generally equipped with a rubber or leather strap, the Offshore is more versatile, more integrated, and more visibly related to its Gerald Genta forebear when fit to AP's awesome hand-finished bracelet.

Even better, the early Royal Oak Offshores on bracelets can be fit with modern "double plot" Offshore straps; the older strap-clad Royal Oak Offshores cannot be fit with modern straps or ANY Offshore bracelet model.

Designed by then-22 year-old Emmanuel Gueit, the Offshore revolutionized the staid image of Audemars Piguet, initiated a new generation of high horology devotees, and launched the modern era of the oversized luxury sports watch.

With the original 42mm case, "blob index" dial, "petite tapisserie" dial guilloche, and Jaeger-LeCoultre-based caliber 2226/2840, it's a time warp back to the grunge era!
