Here I have talked about why the Project Tiger was initiated in 1973 and how National Tiger Conservation Authority was given statutory status under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 through an amendment of 2006. The National Board of Wildlife recommended the setting up of Tiger Task Force which mandated the statutory status of National Tiger Conservation Authority. The functions of NTCA has been discussed. The differentiation of tiger reserves in core areas and buffer areas has also been discussed. Watch the video for more details.
