Rapé is a sacred shamanic medicine that has been used by Amazonian shamans for thousands of years, it is part of their tribal culture and history.
The first documented writings on the use of Rapé come from the Incas, who used Rapé to cure diseases and to “purify the head”. The Inca only used wild tobacco and the roots of the plants.
Rapé is a mixture of tobacco, vegetable root bark, seeds and leaves, and plant ash.

The tobacco is first cut into small pieces and then dried over low heat. Then the dried plant materials and tobacco leaves are pulverized with a rosewood pestle, this adds a sweet woody scent to the Rapé. After milling, the mixture is sieved and ground until a fine, smooth powder is obtained.
South American shamans view the use of tobacco as a sacred, healthy medicine and there is a very close connection between the use of tobacco and shamanism. The use has little in common with our Western way of using tobacco.

The Indigenous tribes use Rapé in ceremonies for good weather, for fishing, or to predict the harvest. Rapé is also used for spiritual journeys to enter a trance or to see visions, and to remove negative energy.
The ritual is performed by blowing the Rapé into the nostrils with a pipe made of bamboo or bone. The intense blow is immediately aimed at the mind, which opens and frees itself so that intended intentions can do their work. In addition, Rapé helps release emotional, physical and mental illnesses and alleviates negativity and confusion, laying a thorough foundation for your mind. Shamans use Rapé to realign with their energy channels, with their higher self and to intensify their connection to the world and the universe.

Rapé stimulates the mind with its nicotinic acid, which in turn produces epinephrine, acetylcholine and dopamine. The pineal gland is attributed an important role in spiritual functions, such as; intuition, (lucid) dreams, the connection with the universe and manifestation. It is therefore also called the third eye or the seat of the soul.
