Sky News host Paul Murray says the government is making “almost three times more” in taxation from tobacco than it did in 2011-12, despite “fewer people” who smoke.

“The single biggest addict when it comes to tobacco is the federal government,” Mr Murray said.

“A huge proportion of the people who pay and still smoke are poor.

“So the same people who don’t have the money to pay more for cigarettes, are paying more for cigarettes, while the government is making three times as much.”
