false self grandiosity, undue sense of uniqueness, feelings of entitlement, alloplastic defenses disguised as prosocial, moral, spiritual, or communal;

hi-functionality and personality organization;

collapse consists of recurrent failures to attain goals;

internal locus of control, seeming self-sufficiency and resilience mask collapse, anxiety, insecurity, internalized bad object (harsh, sadistic, punitive superego or inner critic), avoidance, dependency;

internal regulation via daydreaming and planning of accomplishments in order to conform to an ego ideal;

cold empathy plus minimal access to empathy and positive emotions;

inability to genuinely participate in group or team activities, disruptive presence;

passive-aggressive, sullen, surly, self-denying, behaviors; cunning, vengeful, and premeditated malevolence;

intermittent reinforcement;

scorn for others, often masked by pseudohumility;

schizoid or avoidant phases alternate with bursts of histrionic attention seeking, but no sustained impression management or need for narcissistic supply;

recklessness aimed at controlling, hurting, or affecting others, not aimed at self-gratification (no novelty, thrill, and risk seeking behaviors);

sadistic-punitive or goal-oriented triangulation;

Stable object and introject permanences (constancy).

Social Adaptation

Socially awkward and inept;

desultory work, slacker (pseudo- sublimation);

no overall ambition, focus on narrow, short-term, limited goals;
no preoccupation with appearances;

often fails, loser, but not self-defeating or self-destructive. Failures outcome of indolence, entitlement, preference for shortcuts, inability to commit, invest, or delay gratification, impulsivity, recklessness.

Ethics, Standards, and Ideals

idiosyncratically and unevenly moral, caricatured modesty (pseudo-humility), activism and apparent enthusiasm for sociopolitical affairs;

inordinate ethnic and moral relativism;

pretended contempt for money in real life, feigned spirituality and “guru” status;

irreverence or even hostility toward authority.

Love and Sexuality

marital or relationship instability;

cold and greedy seductiveness coupled with aggressive entitlement to sex;
extramarital affairs and promiscuity;

uninhibited, often kinky, sexual life.

Cognitive Style

dichotomous thinking (splitting): helpful or obstacle;

sometimes appears to be impressively knowledgeable, especially on esoteric or arcane topics;

egocentric perception of reality (“what’s in it for me”);

fondness for shortcuts to acquisition (of knowledge, possessions, relationships, status, access, etc.);

indecisive, not opinionated (mistaken for openness);

love of language, often strikingly articulate.
