The Bronstein variation is a sideline, which, just like 4.c4, doesn't get enough credit. It's a very concrete way of trying to punish Bf5 with the knight. In conjunction with h4-h5, white will try to target the bishop, provoking a response with either h5 or h6 by black, to give the bishop a safe diagonal. This move and idea is a hybrid between the Tal variation and the Short variation. The most basic idea is to gain a tempo on the bishop with the knight. Long-term, the knight on g3 will support f4-f5.
