Harvesting the Giant Pumpkin - Grown in Leaf & Coffee Ground Compost

Описание к видео Harvesting the Giant Pumpkin - Grown in Leaf & Coffee Ground Compost

It's time to harvest the giant pumpkin that's been growing in only homemade compost, no soil. This was a test to see how large of a pumpkin that we could grow out of this compost which is made from millions of leaves and thousands of pounds of coffee grounds. The natural rich leaf mold looks to have done a great job of feeding this Atlantic Giant Pumpkin plant all summer. The pumpkin was pollinated 98 days ago and now its time to pick it. We also will cut this pumpkin open with a chainsaw to examine the wall thickness of this giant fruit. The seeds are removed from the pumpkin and counted - 591 seeds are inside this giant pumpkin! Nitrogen to Carbon Compost Ratio was the key in mixing a proper balanced compost pile that gets very hot. The leaf matters gives a great source of Carbon, and the coffee grounds are very high in Nitrogen, and this composted mix fed the pumpkin all season. No fertilizers were used to feed this plant, just water.
