Just Another Year

It’s getting cold again
The sun’s starting to fade a little early in the day
I feel it changing in the wind
This time of the season always starts out with you leaving again

Now I’ve just been writing songs
Words land on the pages but they’re all words that I can’t say
And I just keep strumming on
Leaves fall off the trees and you fall further back from me, we’re moving on

Well it seems it’s time to say goodbye, there ain’t no sense in asking why,
You know you can’t hold on to time, the days just disappear
We threw that calendar away before we turned November’s page
I couldn’t make you stay, you’re just another year,

The seconds used to pass so fast
Now the nights keep draggin’ on just trying to do more right than wrong
A grain of sand through an hourglass
Slips right through the cracks and there’s no chance to get it back
Once it’s gone
