OK I've given in and called this genre of tunes Indie Sleaze please don't kill me

In the mid 00s we ran a club night called Fear of Music in a place called the Montague Arms in New Cross. It was a bizarre old pub run by geriatics, the oldest bar maid used to come to the bar on a stairlift, and the main barman Stan looked like the Cryptkeeper.

The place was full of stuffed animals, I mean absolutely full - in one corner it had an old post van being driven by two stuffed zebras, there were horses heads coming out the walls, otters, insects, badgers along the bar, an animatronic Father Christmas who's batteries were slowly failing. He jerkily waved his bell all year round.

We'd have live acts come through - Simian Mobile Disco came and played We Are Your Friends a few months after it had dropped, Gang of Four played there first gig in over a decade with us, Riton came a few times - none of us guessed he'd be hammering out chart toppers a lifetime later. It was fun and very messy. As for us, we used to play everything, old punk, oddball disco,French house, rap, grime, hardcore, jungle, and lots and lots of stuff that is now, kinda bafflingly to me, being called Indie Sleaze - to me it felt like a mix of everything we were playing distilled into single tracks, but, being real, Indie Sleaze is a way catchier term, so what do I know...

I was thinking about that time recently and dug out some tunes - I haven't pulled em out in years, and they were still sounding great, club tested every one of em, amazed they arent more scratched tbh. Where did 20 years go??
