Daytona USA 2 was released in two editions, the first being Battle on the Edge which included three courses and three cars to drive. Later, a revision titled Power Edition was released which included changes to the AI controlled cars' difficulty and the game's physics. More notably, Power Edition also included a new course, the Challenge Mix course, and a new car to drive, the Hornet Classic. The Hornet Classic drives the same way it did in the original Daytona USA. It uses a physics model completely different from the other three cars, meaning it might take some practice to get used to driving it around the tight corners of Daytona USA 2.

The way that the Hornet powerslides is different compared to the cars from Daytona 2. Just like in the original Daytona, the line that the car will follow around a corner is determined only by the car's speed. When approaching a corner, do not release the gas pedal! Instead, shift down to a lower gear very early to start slowing the car down to the correct speed. Then, turn into the corner, and when the car reaches the correct speed for the corner shift to fourth gear and straighten the steering wheel. Practice powersliding the Hornet on the third corner of the Beginner course. Shift to second gear to bleed off speed, steer into the corner, and shift to fourth gear when your speed is around 170 mph/270 kph.

Additionally, shifting to first gear does not cause the Hornet to immediately spin out like the three other Daytona 2 cars. You can use this to slow down more quickly for a corner; remember to steer gently and avoid using your brakes or else the Hornet will spin out. If the car does start to spin, do not give up! To catch the car, do not turn against the spin or else the car will suddenly change direction towards the outside wall. Center the steering wheel and let the car finish a full rotation before trying to take control again; you can also try to steer gently to keep the car closer to the middle of the track.

Remember that the Hornet is not as forgiving as the Daytona 2 cars! Avoid contact with cars and other walls at all costs! Since the Hornet loses traction quickly to begin with, damaging the car will make it drive even worse. Additionally, the Hornet accelerates slower as the gears are much longer and the engine only revs to 7000 rpm; shift up in the yellow zone of the tachometer if you lose speed. Because of its unique physics, the Hornet has the potential for lap times faster than the Hard level car, but only if you can keep your speed up through each corner and draft behind opponents to help the Hornet accelerate faster. Note that the hornet does not lose speed after you slingshot around a car after drafting, so once you hit your top speed you can freely move around the track to get into position for the next corner.
