Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, met with Hamas’ chief negotiator, Khalil Al-Hayya, in Doha on Monday. The meeting focused on Washington’s new ceasefire plan.

Hamas confirmed it had received the proposal, describing it as containing “some ideas” toward a comprehensive truce. Israel also said it is giving the deal serious consideration.

According to Israeli officials, the plan would see all 48 hostages released on the very first day of the ceasefire. In return, Israel would free thousands of Palestinian prisoners.

The proposal also calls for immediate negotiations to achieve a permanent end to the war. Fighting would remain suspended as long as talks continue. US President Donald Trump is expected to personally guarantee that the truce holds.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum hailed the proposal as a “true breakthrough,” urging the Israeli government to fully support the agreement and back Washington’s efforts until every hostage comes home.

But within Hamas, there is strong criticism. Political bureau member Basem Naim blasted the US initiative, calling it an attempt to corner Hamas into rejection rather than a genuine path to peace. He said Hamas seeks an agreement to end the war — but will never sign what he described as a “humiliating surrender document.”
