Our sand cast bronze plaque is typically made through the following process at the foundry:
1. Creating a pattern: A pattern is made of the desired design for the plaque. This can be done by carving the design out of wood, or using computer-aided design (CAD) software to create a digital model, which is then 3D printed.
2. Making the mold: The pattern is used to create a mold by packing sand around it in a casting flask. The mold is then removed from the pattern, leaving a cavity in the shape of the design.
3. Preparing the bronze: The bronze is melted in a furnace at a temperature of around 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
4. Pouring the bronze: The molten bronze is poured into the mold through a sprue, which is a channel that allows the metal to flow into the cavity. The bronze is left to cool and solidify inside the mold.
5. Removing the casting: Once the bronze has cooled and solidified, the sand mold is broken apart to reveal the rough casting. The sprue and other excess metal is removed, and the casting is cleaned up and polished to the desired finish.
6. Finishing the plaque: The casting is then ready to be mounted on a plaque or base, or have any additional details added, such as lettering or color.
7. Final inspection and quality control: The finished plaque is inspected to ensure it meets the desired quality standards, and any necessary adjustments or repairs are made. The plaque is then ready to be shipped or installed.
