Today we tell you an incident related to Mahabharata, in which the five Pandavas ate the meat of their dead father Pandu. Will have to Pandu had five sons, Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva. Of these, Kunti was the mother of Yudhishthira, Bhima and Arjuna, and Madri, the mother of Nakula and Sahadeva. Pandu was the father of these five sons, but he was not born from Pandu's semen and intercourse because Pandu was cursed that he would die as soon as he had sex. Therefore, on the request of Pandu, these sons were obtained by Kunti and Madri by invoking the Lord.

When Pandu died, the flesh of his dead body was eaten together by the five brothers. He did this because Pandu himself had such a desire. Since his sons were not born from his semen, therefore Pandu's knowledge, skill could not be passed on to his children. Therefore, before his death, he had asked for such a boon that after his death, his children would eat the flesh of his body by sharing it so that his knowledge would be transferred to the children.

There are two popular beliefs regarding the consumption of father's flesh by the Pandavas. According to the first belief, the meat was eaten by the five brothers, but Sahadeva had eaten the most part. Whereas according to another belief, only Sahadeva ate three parts of his brain following the father's wish. After eating the first piece, Sahadeva got the knowledge of history, after eating the second piece of the present and after eating the third piece, of the future. This was the reason that Sahadeva was the most knowledgeable of the five brothers and this gave him the power to see the future events.

According to the scriptures, apart from Shri Krishna, he was the only person Sahadeva who knew all about the future war of Mahabharata. Shri Krishna was afraid that Sahadev might not tell all these things to others, so Shri Krishna cursed Sahadev that if he did so, he would die.
