Along the Yangtze River: World's Largest Ship-lift Boosts Shipping at the Three Gorges Dam in China

Описание к видео Along the Yangtze River: World's Largest Ship-lift Boosts Shipping at the Three Gorges Dam in China

The world's largest ship-lift in the Three Gorges, central China's Hubei Province, has greatly boosted Yangtze River shipping but it is still short of demand.

Designed jointly by a Chinese-German team, the lift has greatly reduced the time for ships passing through the Three Gorges Dam in the city of Yichang.

The ship-lift can carry a 3,000-ton ship and the tonnage lifted is 15,500 tons, with carrying chamber in the size of four standard Olympic swimming pools.

It takes about 10 minutes to lift a 3,000-ton ship to a vertical height of a nearly 40-story building. It is a "ship lift" the largest in scale and the biggest in technical difficulty in the world.
