Here is an exceptionally high-grade example of the 1909 Matte Proof Lincoln Cent which has been graded PR66+RD by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. An ultra-low mintage of only 2,618 matte proof Lincoln Cents were minted in 1909 and this coin is one of the finest known surviving examples. The coin has that wonderful original mint luster that is characteristic of high-grade matte proofs and which is impressively beautiful. The lightly textured matte proof surfaces seem to make the coin sparkle when rotated under a light. The coin is a bright red color on both sides with some light to moderate red and pink toning that greatly adds to the overall eye appeal. The coin appears to be free of hits or marks and just a few tiny carbon flecks are noticed under a close inspection, but are almost unnoticeable when viewing the coin in hand. This is one of only four (4) examples of the 1909 Matte Proof Lincoln Cent which have been graded PR66+RD by PCGS. Only seven (7) examples of this date have been graded higher by PCGS, all of which with prices into the five figures; five (5) coins grading PR67RD, a single PR67+RD and a single PR68RD. An amazing high-grade matte proof example of this first year Lincoln Cent.
