Sal trees has several uses. It’s leaves, fruits and flowers are used for medicines, during festivities, and for spiritual purposes. Indigenous communities of Jharkhand depend on these for their livelihood. Oxfam India has set up 14 leaf plate making machines in 12 villages in Godda. Mechanised leaf plate making has increased incomes, and made women more independent, self-reliant and confident.
