Installing a Gas Range with Portable Propane Tanks, will it work?

We take a look at our gas range install using two 40lb. propane tanks and why we chose the DIY route.

Regulator is a marshal Excelsior MEGR-291L there is also a horizontal version of this available.

It has been brought to my attention that the 291L has been discontinued. It looks like the next size up is still available currently the megr-291, this has a slightly higher btu throughput of 175k BTU vs the 291L’s 120k BTU but should still work the same way.

Please note: some of these items are not the exact ones we used, with supply chain changes and a couple years passed since this install items have unfortunately come and gone, we have tried to find equivalent parts whenever a link breaks.

We also used a standard 1/2" Gas shutoff inside with a range connection kit and Misc Gas pipe and fittings to get to our location and adapt the 3/8" regulator output to 1/2" for running to the range.

Again, all applications are different and these are just the products and suppliers we used for our installation. proceed at own risk, Gas can be deadly and should be setup by a professional.
