PERi-PERi Chicken isn't the only legendary thing about Nando's...

We're a feast for all the senses from sight and smell to taste and touch. And we can't forget music. The Afro Luso music we play loudly and proudly reflects our heritage with music styles from across Southern Africa.

We invited musician, Muzi (   / @muziou  , to explore the trail back to the home of PERi-PERi and learn where just a few of our beats come from.

Starting in Johannesburg, home of the first Nando's restaurant, Muzi connects with an old friend and artist, Deltino who invites him to Maputo, Mozambique – the birthplace of PERi-PERi – to experience the music and culture for himself. And make a track, of course.

First up, is AZGO Festival – a platform for emerging and acclaimed Mozambican musicians to collaborate and network.

Along the way, he meets Paulo Chibanga, Ellputo, Cheny Wa Gune, Carmen Chaquice, HÉLIO BEATZ, Tufo Da Mafalala and May Mbira, learning how they mix up genres and rhythms to connect with past, present and future.

Muzi's track, The Journey is a reflection of all of this: an emotional, inspiring and culturally-nourishing journey that pays homage to Nando's Afro Portuguese roots.

ABOUT NANDOS
Nando’s started way back in 1987, when the first restaurant opened in Rosettenville in Johannesburg, South Africa. We’ve come a long way since then, but we’ve never forgotten our humble beginnings.
