Graphic Novelist Julia Gfrörer talks with comics journalist Tucker Stone about her latest book, Black is the Color.

Join us for an exclusive evening with Julia Gfrörer, author and artist of the soul-darkening, seafaring, ridiculously awesome new graphic novel Black is the Color, out from Fantagraphics! Called "moving" by The Comics Journal, Black is the Color is the sorrowful tale of an unfortunate sailor's abandonment, and his melancholy meeting of a mermaid named Eulalia.

Filled with cutting humor and poignant, artful images, Black is the Color is sure to become a 2014 favorite. Currently based in Portland, Julia's work has appeared in Thickness, Arthur Magazine, Study Group Magazine, and Best American Comics. As Julia's biography on her personal site thorazos.net espouses, "her last name rhymes with despair, and her heart is black as jet."
