These are the few ways I found to prematurely end the game in Voodoo Detective, where you either decide to give up on the case or get yourself killed in the endgame. There may be additional ways to lose but these are what I could find. Also, each of these immediately go to the credits so there's no death/game over screen to show.

I waited a few minutes on the yacht when Billy is pointing a gun at VD and while being shot at in the office. Neither resulted in a death.
