Former US Army vice chief of staff General Jack Keane says the Trump administration has been “working hard” to put together security guarantees in the path to securing a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

“These security guarantees cannot be underestimated – they are absolutely critical,” Gen Keane told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“We have to put deterrents there – some have been on the ground, some air power ... to make certain that Russia sees that and knows that they would be in a much larger war if they attack.

“We think we can achieve that kind of deterrence.”
