Hello Gold Wing Riders and Lovers. Here is a 1977 Honda Gold Wing GL1000, barn find. Bike came from Germany in October 2023 in such a bad condition, like there was no tomorrow... Thanks to Moto MM for selling this bike to me for very reasonable price, so it could be rescued from being junked. Finally is saved, restored and have a new home for another maybe few decades, who knows... Till I m alive, that's for sure. However now it is fully restored with 90% of it's original parts. Of course some parts like chrome fenders and other chrome plated parts could not be restored or refinished to their original condition, unfortunately. Bike have a new two tone paint, custom made floor boards, shifter and brake pedals, custom mufflers and of course single S&S Super E carburetor on it. Installing a S&S Super E on, the heat shroud should be removed to have enough space for carburetor. Just the studs for engine mounting should be used. So after this last conversion it seems like VW carburetors will not be the best choice for single carb on Gold Wings anymore. S&S is absolutely perfect solution, easy to tune, bike breaths very well, smooth throttle response and so. NOTE! At cold start pull a throttle couple times to prime, after start engine must be warmed up a bit by running on choke (enrichcner). This is due to longer intake manifold. Normal idle RPM's are 1200 on this specific conversion, because of straight exhaust, on stock exhaust it might be around 1000-1100 RM's, because of single carburetor. Spark plugs heat range should be No 6 by NGK, other brands would be a different number.
My NOTE. Doing a single carb conversion is very important to make sure about: spark plugs condition, fuel lines, ignition, timing, battery status. Valve adjustment might be needed as well (not always).
Jetting: main jet No 078, intermediate jet No 0295
To get more power on the top end a thunder jet can be installed, but this is optional. For normal riding is more than enough power without it.

Carburetor is made in China (replica), but works very well with minimum adjustments or tuning. This is the best conversion I have ever done comparing to other carburetors. S&S is just as simple as it could be and performs just very well. Now is a 5000 km behind and no issues, no leaks, no oil consumption. Gas mileage is 7 l for 100 km or 33.6 mpg average.
