Alina Bzhezhinska & Joel Prime 'Wisdom Eye' Jazz FM live session

Sunday 27th August 2017 is the 80th anniversary birthday of spiritual jazz icon Alice Coltrane, 2nd wife of John. Chris Philips invited Ukranian harpist Alina Bzhezhinska to pay tribute to Alice, who was a harpist herself, with a live session on The Blueprint. Alina was joined by percussionist Joel Prime on this version of Alice Coltrane's 'Wisdom Eye'.

Alice was a supremely talented multi-instrumentalist from Detroit who eventually took over from the great McCoy Tyner in John Coltrane's band. Her understanding of where his music was going was one of his driving forces. After John Coltrane's death in Alice went deeper into a religious spiritual place and her music reflected this. To this day with cycles of music fans hers remains highly regarded and mystical.
