The Edinburgh Fringe Festival swells the city's population and offers every art form imaginable. Comedy, theatre, music and art are all available, much of it cutting edge.

One artist showing her first short film to festival audiences has found herself in the middle of a furore over her chosen subject matter.

ALISON JACKSON, is an established photographer from London, who recently showed an exhibition of portraits of 90s icons lookalikes. She calls her first ever video piece 'DIANA', using a lookalike actress to explore our relationship with celebrity.

The actress is shown eating a chocolate flake and posing provocatively. In one scene she crosses and uncrosses her legs, conjuring up images of Sharon Stone in 'Basic Instinct'.

The brother of the late Princess, Earl Spencer has slammed the video, calling it a 'tacky stunt' and a cheap attempt to grab publicity.

But Jackson insists the work is a look at society's need for celebrity and it's treatment of icons. She insists the controversial scenes are not 'naughty' but natural, and are meant to make viewers aware of their own voyeuristic demands of the famous. She explains the lookalike does not become raunchy when she crosses her legs, it is the viewer who tries to look up her skirt.

"DIANA" is showing as part of the Festival Revue programme in Edinburgh, which recently broadcast the film through it's website worldart.com, and on giant screens in London's Covent Garden and Leicester Square.

And Jackson is not deterred by the criticism. She hopes to take "DIANA" to New York's Hampton Short Film Festival later in the year, and plans to make a longer film focusing on Diana's iconic status sometime in the future.
