This brief video shows a Ferrograph Series 3 tape recorder being tested for total harmonic distortion (THD). A 1KHz signal generated by the very low distortion oscillator in the Ferrograph RTS-2 test set was recorded and then played back through the RTS-2 distortion analyser. This nulls out the 1KHz fundamental frequency component and measures the combined harmonic output a a percentage distortion component of the signal. Prior to the measurement, the meter is calibrated to 100% distortion when the fundamental is not nulled out.
