Goðafoss, also known as Waterfall of the Gods, is one of Iceland's great waterfalls. In this walking tour we explore the waterfall and its surrounding area.

Information about the tour:
00:00 - We start the tour overlooking Goðafoss's smaller sibling, Geitafoss (Goat falls).
00:49 - Skjálfandafljót river continues from Goðafoss waterfall.
01:43 - The yellow house overlooking the river is Fosshóll.
02:32 - Another view at Geitafoss.
06:40 - Goðafoss waterfall coming into view.
15:49 - Notice the little rainbow.
16:39 - The sign reads: The lava covering most of the valley is more than 8000 years old and comes from the mountain Trölladyngja. The layer of top soil is thin and the main flora is dwarf-shrubs, lichen and moss. In the canyon there are some spectacular potholes. The glacial river Skjálfandafljót is approximately 180km long and flows from the glacier Vatnajökull. Salmon gets as far up the river as to Geitafoss and salmon fishing is quite decent. Goðafoss waterfall in the glacial-river Skjálfandafljót is one of the great waterfalls in Iceland and the largest one in Skjálfandafljót river. Other large waterfalls in Skjálfandafljót river are: Ullarfoss, Barnafoss and Aldeyjarfoss. The small waterfall by the bridge is Geitafoss. According to the Icelandic Sagas, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði, the chieftain of Ljósavatn- county, who lived at the farm Ljósavatn, threw his statues of the pagan gods in the waterfall
Goðafoss (Waterfall of the Gods) in the year 1000 AD, after he had decided that Icelanders should adopt the Christian religion.
