All You Need to Know About Immortal Wonder Woman

Introducion: There are two comic books to this story and it is written by Becky Cloonan and Michael Conrad. The art and cover art is by the magnificent Jen Bartel.


The most important thing to know about this book is that the artwork is stunning. Literally every single panel is beautiful and you just take your time appreciating everything Jen Bartel took the time to highlight. This is notably Jen Bartel’s first time drawing the interior for any comic book. The expressions on the eyes are the thing that caught me the most. Wonder Woman cried a lot in these issues, and I didn’t have a problem. This was a very sad story.


This story takes place way into the future and there are literally just like 10 people alive in the entire universe. We get an appearance from Swamp Thing, Darkside, Superman, the ghost of Batman and some warriors of Themyscira. That’s pretty much it.


The universe is falling apart. There is a being, a force, a creature? called the Undoing that is destroying everything in its path. Wonder Woman even realizes this and suggest to her sisters that they should dip and find a new home, but they think they can fight this thing and are ok with dying. Superman and Darkside fight, for literally no reason, and Wonder Woman thinks that keeping Swamp Thing alive is the only way to preserve the world.

Spoiler Time

How does this story end? Superman flies Darkside into the sun, it gets destroyed and everything goes black. Wonder Woman is left in the void of space with nothing but hope. She finally finds someone and it’s The Spectre. If you don’t know who he is, he’s DC's living embodiment of Vengeance. What is there to avenge when no one is alive? What even matters when nothing is left? The Spectre and Wonder Woman eventually submit themselves to the Undoing and die. The last panel hints towards a new chapter after death.


This story was beautiful and sad. I’m glad I read it. The artwork was just so enjoyable that it probably made up for the story being short and not very climactic.
