The problem with the ZXSP Spectrum emulator on a standard Atari STe is it runs on average at 60% of the real Spectrum speed. So most commercial Spectrum games, are not viable. Sound is awful as the pitch is deepened and the note elongated too. Notwithstanding this, I have found around 15 games that do work pretty well and they all fit on one floppy disk. I want to use the mono monitor rather than use an RF or RGB monitor. It's a compact CRT, which I can just squeeze on my desk. As all my other machines have LCDs, I like the idea of having one working CRT in my collection :-) Only about 150 Atari games have ever been written for the hi-res mono monitor (low or mid Res colour games don't work on mono monitor but because the ZX Spectrum emulator does works on the Atari mono monitor, I can add ZX Spectrum games to the limited number of Atari mono monitor games available! One other benefit for a left hander like me is that I don't have to stretch my thumb over to the right hand side button as with the emulator the right button duplicates the left one, something that does not happen on a real Spectrum! :-)

Unfortunately I do not have a video camera that syncs properly with the Atari CRT monitor, so I used some post processing filters on VLC to make the best of a poor job. Having thought about in more though, a flickering screen could be seen as adding to the nostalgia :-)
