Battlefield Malta: Then & Now

Описание к видео Battlefield Malta: Then & Now

A look back at the siege of Malta during World War Two, where the Italian and German air fleets pulverized the tiny island for over two years, hoping to force it to surrender. It didn't. And ultimately, Malta was saved by Operation Pedestal, where supply ships like the SS Ohio, limped into port, and bringing much needed aviation fuel. When Malta's submarine force was neutralized, all Rommel did was take Tobruk. When it was operational, the Afrika Korps' supply lines were attacked, and the British wound up pushing the Germans out of Africa. Malta was then used as a springboard for the invasion of Sicily, making the island, one of the biggest unsung heroes of the war.
