📊 How Supertrend Works

Supertrend is plotted on the price chart — it appears as a line above or below the price:

🟢 Below price → Buy signal – Uptrend
🔴 Above price → Sell signal – Downtrend

⚙️ Formula of Supertrend

Supertrend uses two main inputs:

1. ATR - Average True Range – measures volatility.


2. Multiplier – determines how sensitive the indicator is.



The calculation:
Upper Band = High + Low / 2 + Multiplier × ATR
Lower Band = High + Low / 2 − Multiplier × ATR

When the price closes above the upper band, Supertrend flips below the price → Buy.
When the price closes below the lower band, Supertrend flips above the price → Sell.

🧮 Default Settings

ATR Period: 10 or 14
Multiplier: 3

You can adjust them:

Smaller ATR period → more signals – more sensitive

Larger ATR period → fewer signals – more stable

📈 Trading Strategy Using Supertrend

1. Buy Signal

Supertrend turns green and moves below the price.

Wait for the next candle to confirm the trend.

Place a stop loss at the Supertrend line.


2. Sell Signal

Supertrend turns red and moves above the price.

Wait for confirmation.

Place a stop loss at the Supertrend line.


3. Combine with Other Indicators
To avoid false signals, traders often combine Supertrend with:

Moving Average for trend confirmation

RSI or MACD for momentum confirmation

Volume indicators
