Have you ever been in a relationship argument that spiraled out of control over something small? You’re not alone. Relationship coach Dawn has worked with nearly 1,000 couples across diverse backgrounds and believes many conflicts stem from differences in how our brains are wired—and outdated advice like “never go to bed angry.”
In this engaging and practical talk, Dawn introduces the concepts of “waffle” and “spaghetti” brains, rooted in neuroscience, to explain why partners often misunderstand each other. She offers actionable strategies to turn conflict into connection, from the power of timeouts and golden hours to the importance of concise communication and active listening.
Whether you’re navigating long-term love or new relationships, this talk will equip you with tools to deepen understanding, improve communication, and create a stronger partnership. Founder. Coach. Disruptor. Dawn is the Director of Whole Life Solutions and an executive, career transition, and relationship coach who supports individuals through life’s major transition points. Over the past decade, she has served as a career transition coach for hundreds of professionals and as a premarital counselor, working with nearly 1,000 couples.
Dawn has spent years studying the neuroscience of habits and change, as well as the ways men and women are wired to process, communicate, and make decisions differently. When the pandemic hit, she began hearing from more couples in crisis and decided to merge the emotional safe space and neutrality of traditional couples counseling with the solutions-based tools of coaching. This innovative approach offers a shorter-term, neuroscience-based alternative to traditional couples counseling.
Dawn has spoken at conferences, panels, and events across the country. Her clients include Vistage, Creative Mornings, ORACLE, WeddingWire World, NACE, ILEA, WIPA, the Society for Simulation in Health Care, UCLA, Intrepid Health, the Georgia Hospital Association, and UNICEF.
In addition to her professional work, Dawn is a single mom to two “Awesomers” and is always perfecting her double-chocolate buttercream cupcakes. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
