If you're tagged in a photo on Facebook that you don’t want associated with your profile, it's important to know that you can remove the tag, but not delete the photo itself—unless you’re the original poster. Photos on Facebook are owned by the person who uploads them. If someone else tags you in a photo, they retain control over that image, including visibility and deletion rights.

To remove a tag of yourself from any photo, open the Facebook app and go to your profile by tapping your profile icon in the top left corner. Then, navigate to the “Photos” section and select the “Tagged” tab. This view will display all the photos in which you’ve been tagged by others.

Locate the photo you want to untag yourself from and tap the three-dot icon on or near the image. From the menu that appears, choose the “Remove tag” option. Once the tag is removed, the photo will no longer appear in your tagged photos, and your name will no longer be associated with that post. However, the photo itself will still exist on the other person’s timeline unless they choose to delete it themselves.

Removing a tag does not notify the person who tagged you. This process is discreet and ensures the photo is no longer visible in connection with your profile, which can be useful for managing privacy or simply cleaning up unwanted content.

If the photo violates Facebook’s community standards or you find it inappropriate, you can also report it using the “Find support or report photo” option found in the same menu.
