The Social Security Fairness Act would change part of the 1935 Social Security Act to revoke 2 longstanding provisions that impact the retirement savings of a specific subset of federal retirees.

It proposes to eliminate both the WEP and the GPO provisions of the Social Security Act that unfairly reduce or eliminate Social Security benefits for millions of Americans who have devoted much of their careers to public service – including federal employees, police officers, firefighters, and educators.

But, should this pass, it will affect everyone receiving Social Security benefits.
