Paul Keating to meet China’s Foreign Minister

Former prime minister Paul Keating will meet China’s Foreign Minister today.

A further stabilisation of ties with Beijing is expected to dominate talks when the pair meet in Sydney.

Thursday’s meeting comes after talks between Foreign Minister Penny Wong and her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi where China’s trade sanctions on Australia’s lobster and beef exports were top of the agenda.

“We believe it’s in the interest of both nations for all trad impediments to be removed,” Ms Wong said during a media conference on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, high-level talks will continue in Canberra on Thursday as Ms Wong will host the UK’s Foreign Secretary, David Cameron.

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles will also sit down with UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps for annual AUKMIN talks.
