The E70 X5M is an incredible SUV right from the factory, but due to strict emissions and fuel requirements, the cooling system is way over-taxed. By running at a ludicrous 220 degrees, the car is more efficient as the expense of increased wear. To combat that, I have purchased five different upgrades to allow the cooling system to function at a much more reasonable temperature: sport oil cooler valve, lower temp thermostat, coolant additive, lower pressure radiator cap, and increasing engine bay airflow.

In part 1, we installed the oil cooler valve:    • E70 BMW X5M Sport Oil Cooler Valve DI...
In part 2, we installed the N63 Intake low temp thermostat:    • E70 BMW X5M 84C Thermostat Install DIY

Today in part 3, we are adding HyperCool Super Coolant, a lower pressure cap from a diesel X5, and doing a few small changes to the engine bay to increase airflow. The Super Coolant, like Water Wetter or Purple Ice, will decrease the surface tension of the coolant which will increase heat transfer. The lower pressure cooling system cap will still allow plenty of head room for the cooling system to function properly while also lowering the point where pressure will be relieved before popping a hose. Lastly, I will remove the engine cover and one piece of rubber trim to keep the engine bay cooler. I even got to test engine bay temperatures with an infrared thermometer.
