Former Russian ambassador to Qatar Vladimir Titorenko spoke about potential Arab unity in confronting Israel on a September 16, 2025 show on Russia Today TV. He said that Arab solidarity has disappeared from the Arab lexicon and that the idea of a unified Arab defense system is fictitious. He illustrated this by noting that Iraq, Syria, and Algeria rely on Russian air defense systems, while the Gulf countries rely on NATO, particularly the United States. Titorenko said that Egypt would lose a war with Israel, as it had in all previous wars, and that the claim that Egypt won the 1973 war is simply “the Egyptian narrative.” He added that Egypt will “clearly” not start any war with Israel while it possesses a nuclear bomb. Titorenko said that more Arabs have died in wars between Arab states than in wars with Israel, and that Arab countries must first resolve their internal problems before addressing the Palestinian problem. He also said that the Egyptian army is weaker than the Israeli army, while even the Algerian army is stronger than Egypt’s and has higher soldier morale.
