Galveston State Park: Clapper Rail Trail! Walk with me on an island trail in Galveston, Texas!

This trail is located on the bay side of Galveston Island State Park. Galveston Island State Park is known for having access to both the beach and the bay. One side of the park is located along the beach and has beach access as well as outdoor showers, changing areas, and a nice picnic area.

The bay side of the park, has campsites, picnic areas, trails, and bay access. There are kayak rentals available. Some of the trails on the bay side are designed to be done walking, and some of them are paddle trails, for people to do in a kayak or a canoe. Alligators do exist in this part of the park, but I did not see any. This walk was done on the Clapper Rail Trail, which is a trail located in the bay side of Galveston Island State Park.

The day use fee for the park is $5 per person, and includes entrance to both sides of the park. Since this is a popular park with beach access, register online in advance to reserve your day use spot!

There is a statue on the trail which is a memorial to the Eskimo Curlew, which is a type of bird. Eskimo Curlew used to be one of the most common types of birds on shorelines, but now they are either extremely endangered or extinct. The last confirmed sighting of an Eskimo Curlew occurred on Galveston Island in 1962.
